The Ladykillers (1955) began as an Ealing Comedy starring Alec Guinness, Peter Sellers and Herbert Lom. It was adapted for the stage by Graham Linehan in 2011, receiving rave reviews. Professor Marcus and his gang of robbers, posing as professional musicians, rent rooms in the home of elderly Mrs Wilberforce to plan their next heist. They plot to involve her in their crime, but she is more than a match for them. The police are stumped but Mrs Wilberforce becomes wise to their ruse, with only her parrot, General Gordon, to help her. Who will be forced to face the music? This is black comedy at its best.
‘A joy from start to finish.’ Daily Express
‘An exuberantly inventive evening.’ The Guardian

Thame Players Celebrate 80 Years!
In July, Thame Players have been going for 80 years! They’ve come a long way from their beginnings during the Second World War to the present: today there are five productions a year, 30 visiting shows and 25 film screenings by Thame Cinema For All.
Before 1977 shows were staged at the Town Hall. In 1977 Thame Players acquired the lease to the former Church Hall, Nelson Street. Eventually, in 1997, they bought the freehold, and started developing the modern, well-equipped theatre we see today. None of the improvements would have been possible without the support of local councils, sponsors, grant funders, and businesses like Rectory Homes, Richardsons Chartered Accountants, Lightfoots Solicitors, and many more.
As Thame’s leading venue for live performance and cinema, every year The Players Theatre hosts celebrity appearances, music acts, comedy, and, of course, the Christmas pantomime, as well as community events. Here’s to the next 80 years!
