The PC has been managing Chipps Hill and Piddington Green for many years and wildflowers are flourishing.
31 wildflowers have been identified on Piddington Green. Very few of these species would be able to survive in a mown environment and they support an array of moths and butterflies.
An incredible 103 different willdflowers have been identified on Chipps Hill.
Dark Mullein and Kidney Vetch were in evidence, and these are the larval foodplants of the UK Biodiversity Action Plan priority species, the Striped Lychnis Moth and Small Blue Butterfly. UK BAP priority species are those that were identified as being the most threatened and requiring conservation action.
Wild Marjoram was far more abundant than last year especially in areas where dense scrub was removed last year. It is a very important plant in supporting pollinators.
Generally herbaceous wildflowers were more abundant this year at the site, this is likely due to the removal of encroaching scrub.
Some of the areas can look a bit scruffy at times, but they are vitally important to a multitude of flora and fauna species and there is enormous beauty within.
