May 4, 2017Walk length: 5.5 mile circular walk
Starting Point: Studley Green Garden Store, near Stokenchurch HP14 3UB
A 5.5 mile circular walk through beautiful Chilterns valleys with panoramic views, ancient beech woods and rolling farmland. This is close to the place where the red kites were first introduced in the 1990s and you are sure to see these magnificent birds
The Red Kite walk takes you from the Studley Green garden store, across the A40 and straight into lovely countryside, starting gently through fields. Once through he village of Radnage, the route drops steeply downhill through beautiful beechwoods to the picturesque hamlet of Bennett End. From here the route loops over a steep hill to the ancient Radnage Church, dating from the 13th century and still containing some of its original wall paintings. From the Church the route then continues through chalk downland, with wonderful views over the unspoilt Radnage Valley. In summer the chalk downland has lots of wild flowers and butterflies. The final leg of the route takes you through Bottom Wood, an ancient wood containing a wide range of trees, including many wild cherries. In early May there are wonderful displays of bluebells.
Access Information
2 stiles, several steep uphill slopes, paths likely to be muddy in winter and slippery when wet.
Refreshments
The Studley Green Garden Store has a café. The Crown at Radnage and the Mash Inn at Bennett End are just off the walking route, but well worth a small diversion.
